Removing Existing Sludge

Many times existing sludge from previous conventional acid treatments remain down hole. Anti-sludge acid is not designed to remove sludge or heavy hydrocarbon deposits. To treat these problems effectively it is recommended that you treat the well bore with Petrosol X-25 or other solvents designed to remove sludge, paraffin, and asphaltene prior to treating with anti-sludge acid. This one-two punch is the most effective way to treat the damaged well bore. Petrol blends are another effective system. Petrol blends are designed to remove sludge, paraffin, asphaltene, and prevent sludge in one single treatment.

Petrol Blends

The Petrol system is a blend of special aromatic solvent designed to dissolve both paraffin and asphaltene, 5% to 28% hydrochloric acid, and anti-sludge / emulsion surfactants. Petrol systems are blended at 5% to 35% by volume solvent to hydrochloric acid. Iron reducing agents are added to the emulsion to reduce iron levels up to 20,000 PPM. The solvent internal emulsion is designed to break with the acid reaction that occurs down hole. Shut in times after Petrol placement will vary between 4 to 8 hours allowing the solvent to work on the hydrocarbon deposits.

Viscosified Petrol

Viscosified Petrol systems can be blended in 5% to 28% hydrochloric acid and solvent percentages between 20% to 35%. Viscosified Petrol is solvent external and can be blended to 100 centipoises viscosity. The viscosified Petrol spending time is greatly extended over conventional acid systems and allows all the mechanical benefits of a high viscosity fluid.

Key Benefits

  • Removes existing sludge, paraffin, asphaltene, and prevents sludging all in one treatment.

  • Available in solvent internal and solvent external emulsions.

  • Cost effective when targeting existing sludge and anti-sludge prevention with the same treatment.
